Haven monitoring system application

Haven. The app turns your smartphone into a security monitoring system, all you need is an additional Android phone, a dose of paranoia and a bit of paranoia! In a statement to Wired, Edward Snowden said: “Imagine if you have a guard dog that you can take with you anywhere and leave it in the room when you are not in it. The main idea is to make sure the place around you is safe and you can trust it. ”

How does the Haven app work?

Place your Android phone that you installed the app on in the place you want to be safe - in your bedroom, in the office, or anywhere you think someone is tracking you or trying to spy on you, whether it's your family, your partner in the room, or Your comrade or any person or entity that you suspect is trying to spy on you.

The application will use the phone's audio pickup or microphone to monitor and record the sound when it senses its presence, activates the camera to capture video for the intruder, and uses a component present in the phone to monitor any movement of the device itself. The app also relies on the ambient light sensor on the phone to detect any difference in ambient light, and the energy monitor makes fun to check if it is connected to a power source for charging or removing it from the charger. Then the app will then automatically send you notifications - including audio and video files - to your primary phone in any of the mentioned cases.

Mechanism for communicating notifications and browsing the record

For added protection, notifications are sent via Signal, an authenticated encrypted messaging app approved by Edward Snowden himself. If you do not wish to receive real-time updates, you can review the phonebook that the Haven app was installed on, whether it's remotely using the Tor browser or on the phone itself.

If the primary purpose of the Haven app is to protect your laptop or devices from anyone trying to tamper with them, but it can also be used in other scenarios, it acts as a cheaper alternative than surveillance cameras and can be used in more sensitive situations.

In an interview with The Intercept, Elfaa Gallbiren, director of electronic security for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, said that the Haven app might be a good way to help people who are worried about their abusive partners.

The beta version of the Haven app is available on the Play Store.
